There is much to report but, alas, little time in which to do so. However, I did want to report a recent award that will give all clan members great pride. The following letter from Hannah M. Pennington, Director, Bronx Legal Project, NYC Family Justice Center, Sanctuary for Families, gives the details.

“Dear All:

We are thrilled to announce that your colleague Suzanne Skinner has been chosen as a recipient of this year’s Sanctuary for Families Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Advocacy for her outstanding legal work on behalf of Sanctuary clients. We are so pleased to be able to honor your colleague in this way, and are so grateful for Paul Weiss’s commitment to providing such high caliber pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence.

Suzanne will be honored at the eighth annual “Above & Beyond” Benefit on November 15, 2010 at Crimson, 915 Broadway at 21st Street, New York City. If you have not attended before, we hope you will join us at this wonderful event, hosted by Sanctuary’s Associates Committee, to celebrate the contributions of your colleague and other lawyers to Sanctuary for Families’ Center For Battered Women’s Legal Services (the Legal Center).

As you know, Sanctuary for Families is one of the leading nonprofit agencies in the nation dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims and their children. Sanctuary offers sophisticated, holistic services to meet the complex needs of our clients, including shelter, counseling, legal representation, and assistance in making the transition to independent living. Sanctuary serves over 10,000 victims every year, and all services are provided completely free of charge. The Legal Center was established in 1989 and is now the largest legal center in the country exclusively dedicated to meeting the legal needs of domestic violence survivors.

The Sanctuary Associates Committee is a group of young professionals who support the work of Sanctuary and specifically the Legal Center. The Committee’s goals are to create a broad network of lawyers representing domestic violence victims, raise awareness of the critical legal and social services provided by Sanctuary, and raise funds for the Legal Center. The Committee hosts the annual “Above & Beyond” Benefit to recognize the work of pro bono attorneys who go “above & beyond” in assisting survivors of domestic violence, while raising funds to support the critical work of the Legal Center. To see pictures of and information on last year’s benefit, please visit the Sanctuary for Families website.

On behalf of the Sanctuary for Families staff and the entire Associates Committee we would like to thank you for your firm’s commitment to our work. Without pro bono partnerships like the one we have with your firm, we would not be able to do what we do.

Thank you.
