Name this Man! The 2008 Thanksgiving Challenge

Dead Giveaway Hints:
1) The Caption for the above June 1949 photo read: “_____ _____ watches television”.
Not Helpful ? C’mon. Then consider the following…
2) Commissioned George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and Ferde Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite.
3) Hired Bix Beiderbecke, Jack Teagarden, and a trio called the Rhythm Boys, a notable member of which became famous – Bing Crosby.
4) Said that “Jazz came to America three hundred years ago in chains.”
Still stumped? This audio clip will surely help – be patient, it will load in less than a minute, and listen long enough for the lyrics – a guaranteed tonic for whatever ails you. The title of the tune is Happy Feet. The feet in the photo above look happy, no?
You’ll have lounging time over the Thanksgving Break to mull this quiz over. Either add your answer in comments below or send email to chamberlain@ourrumpus.com. Winner will get CD recordings by this giant…
Happy Thanksgiving,

Our family lost a dear friend, Pat Horton, Tuesday the 18th of November. Pat died of emphysema at St John’s Hospital in Washington Missouri at age 67. Many of you will recall that Pat, her husband Don, and their children Connie, Holly, Tim and Amy lived in the late 1960s – early 1970s at Moone Athy, first at the Annex, then at the Barn house. During this time they became especially close friends of Aunt Grizelda.
Recent years have been difficult for Don and Pat. Her increasing pulmonary incapacity restricted her to her home in Marthasville Missouri, a home which she and Don converted with much labor and love from an old schoolhouse. Despite this she and Don would host friends and family for meals, and they would regularly babysit their grandchildren there.
The Hortons would talk frequently of their fond memories of the farm and especially of Grizelda. Don, an ironworker, was working on the construction of the St Louis Arch while at Moone Athy and would later work on the building of the Labadie Power Plant across the Missouri river. Not only was he a great ironworker, but he was also an expert Morel mushroom hunter. Don, a gifted story teller, liked to reminisce about Grizelda’s initial unwillingness to risk eating his Morels for fear of mushroom poisoning. This was cured when a visitor from France, spying the mushrooms laid out on a Horton table, began eagerly devouring them, without any obvious ill effect. Grizelda quickly joined in before they were all gone!
We will miss Pat dearly and will be keeping Don and his family in our prayers. His address is:
Don Horton
38 Legion Hall Rd
Marthasville, Missouri
63357
Pat’s funeral services were private. Memorials to the American Lung Association are preferred.
